Bauxite laden trucks stopped at Margao
Protesting against 'injustice' meted out to them while engaging trucks for transportation of bauxite from the mine at Betul to the Mormugao Port Trust, truck owners from Margao and other parts of Salcete on Tuesday stopped all trucks loaded with bauxite at Gogol-Margao.
As the situation led to traffic blockade, Dy SP Mohan Naik and deputy collector Sangeeta Naik rushed to the spot to prevent any law and order problem. The contention of the protestors was that the locals were given preference for loading the ore.
South Goa district collector N D Agrawal later convened a meeting of the protesting truck owners, mine owner Mayur Gosalia and police officers. Agrawal suggested that a "queue system" be implemented for transportation and directed Gosalia to work out ways to arrive at an amicable solution.
